Services
Christian Counseling
Christian counselors integrate spirituality, faith and theology with psychotherapy to help people seeking assistance with personal, family, marital and faith issues.
For individuals seeking counseling who would prefer a Christian perspective, these services are available. Our Christian counselors at Higher Ground understand how important it is for you to receive counseling in a Christian setting that represents your beliefs and values. Our Christian counselors believe in the integration of both professional counseling techniques and Christian principles in the therapeutic process, as directed by each individual’s personal preference and faith journey.
Specialization: Premarital, Divorce, Family Conflict, Grief/Loss, Anger, Life’s Changes, Marriage/Couples, Sadness/Depression
Individual Adult Therapy
We work with Adults who are struggling with a wide variety of life challenges. We provide a safe, supportive, confidential environment to help to identify your concerns and provide the tools and resources needed to learn healthy ways of coping and getting through difficult times.
Some Adults may benefit from a focused, short-term psychotherapy that occurs once weekly and may last approximately 6-8 sessions. Some clients return to therapy as needed.
Others may benefit from a more thorough exploration of personal issues that will help address the complexity of their presenting issues. Clients are typically seen once or twice a week (as needed). Clients are typically seen from 20 sessions up to two years.
Child and Adolescent Therapy
All youths are inherently resilient, but when faced with multiple or ongoing stressors, any one of us can find ourselves struggling to cope. Each phase of development brings specific challenges for children. They tend to work through these as a normal part of growing up; however, some factors or conditions can make these challenges more difficult.
Often youths do not understand why they are having difficulties. Seeking counseling early on can enable individuals to identify concerns and collaborate to address their problems. Services are available to help children/teens understand and resolve problems, modify behavior, and make positive changes in their lives
We help children of all ages from birth through adolescence with:
- ADHD
- Trauma/abuse
- Adoption
- Anxiety and depression
- School and peer problems
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Eating disorder
- Behavioral/discipline problems
- Family transitions (divorce/death)
- Chronic medical illness and disabilities
Couples Counseling
We work with couples in all relationship stages including engagement, starting a family, raising children, empty nesting, and retirement. Together, we can work on a variety of relationship concerns such as: infidelity, disconnection, intimacy issues, parenting conflicts, and stay-or-go decisions.
Couples can learn how to manage conflict, improve their communication, move past painful experiences and feel the passion, love, and excitement in their relationship again.
Couples will be given the opportunity to re-connect, heal old wounds, and establish new and more intimate ways to relate and respond in order to help strengthen and deepen their relationship.
Family Counseling
When your family is in crisis, you may need a qualified and attentive professional to help guide you and your loved ones through this difficult and overwhelming period. Family Counseling Services are offered to families by experienced, qualified, and trained professionals who provide not only emotional support but tools, education and guidance on a wide variety of concerns and issues that modern-day families often experience. Our counselors provide a safe and non-judgmental environment to help families begin to heal and restore these important relationships.
Parent Guidance
As parents, we want to see our children grow and thrive in life. However, for many children, doing so can be challenging. If your child is struggling, there is hope. Treatment of children and adolescents is a collaborative approach between parents, the minor, and the therapist. Parent guidance will further educate parents on how to help teach their child the skills they are lacking while supporting their growth and development.
Psychological Testing
We offer psychological testing and evaluations, including intellectual and cognitive testing. What can a Psychological Evaluation assist with?
- Clarify psychiatric or developmental diagnoses (e.g. ADHD, Mood Disorder, Schizophrenia)
- Determine intellectual strengths or weaknesses
- Identify academic strengths or weaknesses
- Rule out or confirm a learning disorder
- Provide a thorough understanding of one’s psychological and personality functioning
- Make treatment recommendations that are grounded in a comprehensive understanding of the client
- Screen for serious neurological concerns requiring additional assessment
- Understand career or vocational strengths and interests
We also conduct pre-hire and fitness for duty evaluations for police departments and private sectors.

Licensure Supervision
Obtaining excellent supervision while either training to become a therapist or as an early career psychologist is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Supervision can also provide insight into your personal style and guidance on how to sharpen your skills as well as how to adapt your style to the complex needs of diverse clients.
While working as a clinician is wonderfully gratifying, it is also incredibly complex. A key aspect of clinical supervision is to create a supportive space to help therapists reflect on the clinical complexities while learning to compartmentalize their own emotions and practice better self care.
While supervision requirements vary with the degree and license a therapist holds, Higher Ground is more than equipped to provide licensure supervision as well as supervision for graduate level students.
Supervision be provided in person and virtual. The supervision process involves:
- Case review (through note review, audio/visual recording, provide ongoing and final evaluation of the supervisee’s clinical skills);
- Providing oversight and guidance in diagnosing, conceptualizing, treating and dealing with the supervisee’s clients;
- Conducting supervision as a process distinct from personal therapy or didactic instruction;
- Evaluating the supervisee’s role and conceptual understanding in the treatment process;
- Evaluating the supervisee’s utilization of a theoretical base and counseling principles.
Tele-Health Therapy
Do you live in a more rural area, or maybe you prefer to just do things virtually? If so, we can help you through virtual therapy, or telehealth. Telehealth allows us to provide counseling and therapy to our clients via live video conferencing. This can be done anywhere you have a computer or smart phone. Telehealth appointments can be very beneficial if getting to a traditional in-person appointment is not convenient, or you simply just don’t want to.
Our telehealth solution allows you to schedule an appointment directly online and have the entire therapy session take place digitally. While you don’t need a video camera, we do recommend you use one. To learn more and get started with virtual therapy, please contact us today.
